Opening Night Friday, September 4th from 5:00-7:30pm
Frances Ashforth’s spare paintings and drawings reflect the geography and geology of the intersecting habitats that she has studied and explored. Her passion for flyfishing and time spent in remote places has allowed her to experience and be inspired by wild, unpopulated lands across the United States. For her latest show, Scenic Route, Ashforth has chosen subjects closer to her home in the Wood River valley.
Whether she's working with pencil or oil paint, Ashforth’s process is consistently based on observation and intuition. Her work can appear deceptively simple, yet by focusing on the details and editing the composition, Ashforth’s work evokes memories and knowledge that only comes from the focused study of a particular landscape. Each piece takes the viewer on a contemplative journey-- one that rewards patience and introspection.
