About Hemmings Gallery
Hemmings Gallery is a contemporary art gallery in Ketchum, Idaho, showing painting, sculpture, works on paper, photography, fiber, and mixed media by artists from the Wood River Valley and across the country.
We go more on instinct than on category. We look for artists with a strong point of view, and for work that keeps giving something back over time. That might be a Thom Ross painting, a Frances Ashforth drawing, an abstract work by Adam Shaw, or a one-of-a-kind monotype from the Aurobora collection.
How Hemmings Began
Hemmings grew out of years spent working around art. Edward worked in galleries, as a studio assistant, and in framing before starting Raven Art Services, his fine art logistics and installation business in the Wood River Valley.
Through that work, he began to see room for a gallery offering artists and work that felt different from what was already available locally. He and Glin had wanted to create a gallery of their own, built around artists they genuinely loved.
The opportunity came through Raven, when Edward came to know Aurobora through his work there. As the studio was winding down, the collection came to Hemmings Gallery and became part of the gallery from the beginning, while Edward and Glin built a roster and program of their own.
The Gallery
The program is intentionally varied. What connects the artists is less a shared style than the sense that the work could only have come from the person who made it.
Landscape and the American West turn up throughout the gallery, though often in unexpected ways: through abstraction, humor, memory, material, and storytelling.
Hemmings is small and owner-operated. The people choosing the work are also the people talking with artists, hanging exhibitions, visiting clients' homes, and helping figure out what might work on a particular wall. Through Raven Art Services, we can handle the practical side of collecting too, including delivery and installation.
Some people come in knowing exactly what they want. Others fall in love with something they never expected to like. Both are good ways to start.

The Hemmings Aurobora Collection
Hemmings is also home to close to two hundred monotypes created at Aurobora, the San Francisco printmaking studio. A monotype is a unique printed work rather than part of an edition, so each impression exists as a single original.
The collection includes work by artists such as Lynda Benglis, William Wiley, Stephen De Staebler, John Zurier, Pia Fries, Joanne Greenbaum, and Gary Komarin, alongside many others. It brings another history and another generation of artists into the gallery while remaining distinct from the artists Hemmings represents directly.
