SPECIAL POP-UP EXHIBITION for one-night only! Saturday, December 20th from 5:00-8:00pm
For Boise-based artist Delia Dante, “This project was born from a realization: women are rarely depicted in sculpture as warriors—particularly in ways that reflect their contemporary courage and contributions. That realization has led me to begin interviewing remarkable women from a range of fields and crafting helmets that represent how they “go into battle” every day. It’s been a profoundly moving journey, pushing me into exciting new creative territory that blends TIG welding, enameling, electroforming, 3D printing, and metalsmithing.”
“I reimagined what a modern female warrior looks like,” Dante said. “The women of today fight their own battles for equality, identity, and respect. I wanted to honor them with contemporary, metaphorical armor. This series is created to reflect the spirit and story of a specific woman, but it is also meant to speak to the shared struggles and courage of women everywhere.”
Among the works is the armor she created in honor of Mariel Hemingway, the actress and writer, who lives in the Wood River Valley and has strong Ketchum roots. For Dante, “Her resilience, honesty, and lifelong advocacy for mental well-being are profoundly inspiring. In creating her armor, I wanted to honor her strength, her clarity of vision, and the light she brings to others through her work and her foundation.” A special screening of the film “Women on Fire” by Boise-based filmmaker Karen Day featuring Dante’s process will be screened at the event.
The artist and special guests, Hemingway and Day, will also be in attendance. Food & beverages will be served. All are welcome to attend.
