Tony Delap continues to use hard-line geometric shapes to pose visual illusions. Using an over-sized plexiglass matrix, Delap applied bold, primary color to specific areas and highlighted these sections with black, affording his monotypes an elusive, three-dimensional quality. Delap’s ability to evoke vitality from the white space of the paper, allow his imagery to imply motion, rotation, and mystery as the negative space shares equal importance with his imagery. Delap’s monotypes are inspired by the prestidigitator’s tricks, the quick movement of the card player’s hand, and the constructivist paradigm of the Russian avant-garde.
